If you want to avoid having to take out car repair finance in Hillingdon or elsewhere this year, you’d be wise to be particularly cautious when driving overseas for your summer holidays.
New research from Admiral has revealed that the number of overseas insurance claims it has had to deal with has jumped 160 per cent in the last five years alone. And since millions of Brits take their cars abroad with them each year, it makes sense to be as careful as you can while hitting the foreign roads!
The top ten destinations for car accident claims last year were found to be France, Spain, Germany, the Republic of Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Romania and Switzerland… so if any of these are on your bucket list for this year, make sure you keep your eyes on the road.
“To ensure an accident doesn’t ruin your holiday we’re calling on all drivers to make sure they’re well informed, so if the worst should happen, they are properly prepared. You can do this by having the right documentation on you, by being aware of the rules of the road in the country you’re visiting and finally by knowing what to do and where to report details of any accidents,” head of claims Lorna Connelly advised.
The AA helpfully has a list of touring tips and a country by country guide of local rules to help you get to grips with it all. Did you know, for example, that in France the speed limits are determined by place, vehicle and the weather? Better take a look at the guides in case there’s something you need to be aware of!
