Commuting from a suburban area into the city is the perfect lifestyle to accommodate an electric car, but do you know that as well as being green it could also slash your car servicing and maintenance costs?
The Express has revealed hpi’s list of the best-value-to-run electric vehicles (EVs) on the market today, because while electric cars come with a big environmental incentive, they are not the cheapest autos available to buy compared to a petrol or diesel model.
The automotive data expert puts the Citroen C Zero Hatchback at the lowest total cost of ownership at £18,319, shortly followed by the Peugeot Ion Hatchback at £18,489.
Next is the Volkswagen Up Hatchback at £19,080 and the Hyundai Ioniq Hatchback at £20,632 and the Renault Zoe Hatchback at £20,817.
Coming in at the pricier end of the compact EV spectrum are the Tesla Model S Hatchback at £43,027 and the Tesla Model X Hatchback at £53,279.
Black Book editor at hpi Chris Plumb was quoted by the Express as saying: “The overall used market for electric vehicles has seen gains with residual values increasing by seven per cent this year.
“EVs and plug-in hybrids can provide a good balance between range and efficiency plus the economic benefits for motorists can be enormous, offering big savings on fuel and tax costs as well as much lower maintenance costs.”
Lower maintenance costs will be good news for the next generation of drivers, as new research from the AA revealed young drivers aged between 18 and 24 are more likely to own an EV than any other demographic.
